Photographic History of Railways

Photographic History of Railways of Lancaster County featuring Manheim Trolleys and Trains: a free presentation by Stan Bowman at 2:00 pm

Prior to 1955, there was a proliferation of trolley lines in Delaware County and maybe 50 streetcar lines in the city of Philadelphia. Stan was a witness to all of this. As a youngster, he rode all 4 of the Red Arrow suburban trolley lines in Delaware County. In 1946, his father took Stan by train to Lancaster where they rode two of the local trolley lines in order to arrive at a
relative’s house on South Lime Street. He has written two books, “Trolleys of Chester County” and “The Trolleys of Pottstown, PA”. He has been a member of the National Railway Historical Society since 1966. Stan is a retired high school teacher having taught mathematics for 34 years.

The Station is open from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Take a free tour of the station,
model railroad, cabin car, and ride the trolley!

HUBERHAUS POTTERY Items will be for sale.
Stephen and Susan Horst from Schaefferstown, owners of Huberhaus Pottery, make
redware pottery in the traditional Pennsylvania Dutch manner, one piece at a time.
Each piece is handmade from red clay, coggled, dried, decorated and fired, then
glazed and re-fired. Wheel work includes bowls, crocks, mugs and pitchers. Their goal
is to provide a product that is reminiscent of days gone by, but of practical use today.

COLONIAL CLOTHING
Ava Graff is a Manheim Central student who was inspired by the AMC series TURN to
begin sewing eighteenth century women’s clothing. Stop by to see what she’s made
and talk with her about her passion for the period. Manheim Historical Society’s Town
Crier will model men’s attire.
